Alpha Omega Academy has dual accreditation through North Central Association (NCA) and the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA). NCA and CITA bring together educators worldwide to promote accreditation and school quality standards. CITA and its participating organizations are recognized accrediting authorities, both in the United States and throughout the world. Alpha Omega Academy is listed in the International Registry of Schools. This registry has a database that can be viewed by parents and schools at www.accreditedschools.org.
Alpha Omega Academy is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). Its college prep core courses have been approved for NCAA scholarship eligibility.
A word about Accreditation.
Q. What is accreditation?
A. Essentially, accreditation is verification by an outside agency that a school is living up to the expectations it has communicated to the public, related to its purpose. (Is the school doing what it says it is doing?) Only the educational institution itself can be said to be accredited, not its curriculum materials or teachers, although these do receive consideration during the accreditation process.
Q. What accreditation does AOA have?
A. Alpha Omega Academy has been fully accredited by CITA (Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation) in association with the NCA-CASI (North Central Association -- Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement.) CITA works with the main regional accrediting associations to provide accreditation for schools that reach across state or national boundaries. The North Central Association, founded in 1895, has provided accreditation for public and private schools in a region stretching from Minnesota to Arizona. The NCA recently announced a merger with SACS, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, to form AdvanceED, the world’s largest educational community, with over 23,000 public and private schools.
Q. Does accreditation guarantee that credits earned in AOA will transfer to an other high school?
A. There is no accreditation that guarantees transfer of high school credits from one state to another; however, most public high schools will accept credits earned in Alpha Omega Academy, thanks to the recognition provided by CITA and NCA accreditation. The exceptions, if there still are any, are districts with policies of not accepting credits from schools outside their own state or from distance-learning schools.
Q. Will AOA’s accreditation get my student into the college of his choice?
A. Accreditation by CITA and NCA certainly helps, since many Midwestern colleges are also accredited by NCA. However, as with any other private school, it ultimately depends on how selective the college’s admission process is, and how attractive a candidate your student is, based on grades, ACT or SAT scores, and other considerations.
