AOA Today - Give the Bible to Your Student
Many Christian parents and some congregations enjoy marking milestones, graduation for example, by giving a new Bible to the young person(s) who has attained that milestone. Clearly, the desire and intent is that their young people will make Bible reading and Bible study a regular practice in their daily lives.
When such daily Bible reading takes place at home, led and modeled by parents, young people are much more likely to value this practice and continue in it themselves. As their teen's life becomes more tightly scheduled, parents will also be challenged to model creativity and flexibility. In this way they can still keep their teen involved in times of family Bible reading and model for them how to keep this a priority when life gets crowded with competing demands.
Alpha Omega Academy® also wants to give the Bible to its students, only not a signed presentation Bible. (We will leave that privilege to you). We aim to give students knowledge and understanding of the Bible so that they will be able to bring out new treasures as well as old, as Jesus, himself, described: "Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven, is like unto a man that is a householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old" (Mathew 13:52). To this end, AOA offers grade-appropriate Bible courses from third grade through twelfth grade. While we require one Bible credit for students earning their high school diploma through AOA, we actually offer five different Bible courses. These Bible courses provide understanding of the unity of the Bible, our Savior and the way of salvation, and many helpful tools for a lifetime of profitable "treasure hunting" in God's Word.
Certainly Sunday School classes and youth group Bible studies are effective avenues of learning and gaining understanding. Rarely, however, can churches provide these as comprehensively as a series of Bible courses during this fertile time of personal growth and maturation in a young person's life. When talking with your faculty advisor, remember to include Christ in your student's academics by registering for a Bible course each year. Dual enrollment and part-time students can also easily build Bible into their programs.
