Intro to AOA WebinarTo make this non-edible, cinnamon-scented holiday craft with your Alpha Omega Academy® distance learning student, gather the following items:

Homemade Cinnamon Christmas Ornaments
(Makes 10-12)

Ingredients and Materials

1 cup ground cinnamon - (Cheaper to buy in bulk at wholesale warehouse clubs)
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
¾ cup applesauce
2 Tbsp. tacky glue

Christmas cookie cutters (metal, smaller shapes work best)
Red and green holiday fabric ribbon (narrow-width)
Glitter glue in Christmas colors (red, green, silver, gold)
Cookie sheet
Waxed paper

Directions

Combine the spices with the applesauce. Add glue and knead well with hands until the mixture forms into a stiff dough. Dust a flat surface lightly with cinnamon and roll out dough ¼" thick. Cut dough into stars, bells, trees, candy canes, angels, and other Christmas shapes with the cookie cutters. Line a cookie sheet with waxed paper and lay the cut-out ornaments on top of the waxed paper. Gently poke a hole at the top of each cinnamon ornament with a small, plastic straw. Place the ornaments in a safe place and dry naturally for 2 to 4 days. To dry evenly, turn the ornaments 2 or 3 times a day.

When ornaments are completely dry, decorate with glitter glue and ribbon. (Decorate using the same designs normally used with your edible Christmas cookies. You can even personalize ornaments with names or Scripture references). When you're finished, hang your handmade ornaments on the Christmas tree and throughout the house for a delightful, spicy smell!
