AOA Today - January Student of the Month
A senior who lives in the state of Florida, Parker Hunsuck is an adventurous and hardworking servant of God. Currently in his second year at Alpha Omega Academy®, Parker chose AOA after learning about AOA's accreditation and flexibility from the AOA booth at a homeschool convention in Orlando.
Parker's adventurous side is easily found in his love for sports and competition. He especially loves the thrill of acceleration from jet-skiing, wakeboarding, surfing, and snowboarding. He has already earned licenses for boating and scuba diving, and he is currently working on obtaining a private pilot license. He has also played soccer since kindergarten and is currently a member of the varsity team for Satellite High School. In addition, he volunteers as a youth leader at a soccer camp every summer, and he is active in the Boy Scouts of America® as a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster and Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the program.
As a distance learning student, Parker is just as hardworking as he is in his extracurricular activities. He is a straight-A student in the top of his graduating class. His teachers described him as a quick student who usually understands the material on the first reading and gets slightly upset when he needs to ask for help.
"He is always very thorough and conscientious in his work," said his English teacher, Mrs. Quint, "and he is kind and courteous in his communication of problems."
Most importantly, Parker understands the importance of his role in the world as a servant of God. Last summer, he volunteered to serve on the support staff at an Officers' Christian Fellowship retreat center in Pennsylvania. Parker also has a big heart for others, which comes from his faith in Christ. His favorite verse is Isaiah 40:31, "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
As Parker nears the completion of high school, he is busy narrowing his choices for a four-year college, where he hopes to pursue his career goal of becoming a medical doctor.
