"I love my school!" That's a line every school wants to hear, and it truly is the way Mia Moore, our July student of the month, feels about her school, Alpha Omega Academy.

Intro to AOA WebinarCurrently a ninth grader in the academy, Mia and her family began using Alpha Omega Publications resources as a homeschooling family about five years ago. Mia was in the fifth grade when her family went through a period of trying times that made it difficult for her to continue her studies. Mia's mom had a heart attack and underwent a six month period of rehabilitation. Shortly after her mom's recovery, her great-grandmother was diagnosed with a critical illness. Mia and her mom decided to move the great-grandmother into their home where they took care of her until she passed away five months later. At this point, Mia discovered she was nearly two years behind in her studies. The prospects seemed overwhelming, then Mia discovered a 1-800 number on her box of LIFEPAC materials and decided to call that number. A recruiter just happened to be working late that evening.

Mia's mom Yvette credits recruiter Sandee Stettnich with coming to her rescue during that time.  Yvette shared, "Mrs. Stettnich listened intently to my issues regarding Mia's education. After crying with me, she so lovingly encouraged me to keep the good fight and that it was not the end of the road for Mia. To this day, I don't know what I would have done if I had not talked to Sandee!"

Mia entered the academy at that point, took placement tests, and discovered she wasn't as far behind as they first thought. Although the curriculum is challenging at times, Mia is a committed worker to her studies. Her mom said, "Mia has matured and grown mentally" as she has continued through with her studies. She's learned a lot through her life experiences, including that she has a love for the elderly. Because Mia was so involved in the care of her great-grandmother, Mia has decided to pursue a career as an occupational therapist once she completes her schooling.

What does Mia like best about the academy? She loves the flexibility of her school schedule and the ability to communicate with her teachers at just about any time. She also appreciates the pep talks she receives from her ASR Pam. Mia uses the Fitness Fundamentals class as a way to get her extra-curricular activities in, and she plans on learning to sew this year. Mia also enjoys swimming, painting, drawing, and reading.

Mia's mom says that she is grateful for the impact AOA has had on her daughter. Today, AOA couldn't have a better public relations spokeswoman than Mia. Mia recommends the academy to everyone she meets. She said the academy helped her when she needed it the most. Mia's dream is that one day she'll be able to fly to the Iowa facility and meet the people who have helped her so much.
