I am new to AOA this summer ( I have two boys enrolled). While I really like the idea of AOA's program, I have been frustrated from the standpoint with how quickly they are quized on new material. It seems there should be more practice pages available. I am having to supplement material to make sure they are prepared to take the quiz. When paying so much for this program, that seems ridiculous. I can see this would work rwell for naturally bright children, but mine tend to struggle with learning...that is why we're homeschooling in the first place.

Until our electronic curriculum can detect and adapt to the particular needs of every student, the supporting roles of parents and teachers may be crucial. Here are a few study suggestions that come to mind:

Emphasize to your student the importance of reviewing objectives, vocabulary, and introductory material at the beginning of each lesson. These set the stage for understanding the instruction that follows.
Allow the student to play the vocabulary and quiz games.
If your child is more of an auditory learner, try using the Read feature in SOS or SOO to let him listen to the lesson.
When lessons are completed, help your student review lesson questions, watching for missed answers that indicate insufficient understanding, and review the corresponding lesson section. Do this just before taking the quiz.
Call AOA and ask a teacher for the subject if he/she has supplementary study materials for particular lessons.
If using Switched-On Online, call your Faculty Advisor and discuss raising the lesson pass threshold for your student. Although the Academy's default 80% setting works best for most students, requiring a 90% or higher mastery level before completing the lesson may be better for some students.
