Imagine this scene: you have a project due in your English course, but it's not an essay! Instead, you grab some markers and a piece of posterboard and get to work, or you grab your video camera and recruit some friends to perform your own interpretation of Hamlet. You are excited to work on a fun, original, creative project.
Wouldn't it be great if you could draw pictures for your projects, create a poster, film a movie, or make a presentation? For some projects this year, teachers have given you the option to do some of these options and more!
One great example of a creative project submission is from Jada Bynum, who is a 12th grader at Alpha Omega Academy. For her British Literature course, she chose to design and draw character costumes and one set/scene design for the play The Taming of the Shrew. To the right are the colorful drawings she submitted to her teacher.
Jada wrote, "My designs for The Taming of the Shrew costumes and staging for Act II, Scene I are symbolic and reflective of the characters' attributes throughout the play." She mentioned that she made the lead female Katherine's costume very "bold and brash" to reflect her personality, and she made the lead male Petruccio's outfit mostly orange to show his vivacious character. On the stage, "it appears that there is an explosion of passion, contention, and color," writes Jada.
