Alpha Omega Academy's Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Please note these Frequently Asked Questions are designed for students already enrolled in Alpha Omega Academy or for parents of enrolled students. The answers to these and many other questions can be found in our online Resource Center. All parents should be familiar with the policies described in our handbook and the procedures detailed in the program guide.

FAQs for students using Switched-On Schoolhouse

Q: My student did poorly on a quiz/test. What should I do?
A: Retakes for quizzes and alternate tests are available on a limited basis as outlined in the Alpha Omega Academy's Clearing/Retake Policy. You can contact your student's SOS Teacher to request the clearing of scores to retake lessons and quizzes and/or the assigning of an alternate unit test. Additionally, we strongly encourage students to prepare adequately for quizzes and tests so that repeating work will not be necessary. Parents and students may benefit from the study tips offered by the Academy. We encourage students to try a number of study methods until they find the strategies that work best with their learning style.

Q: My student's schedule needs to be adjusted. Who should I contact about this?
A: It is best to contact your Academy Services Representative (ASR) when you need your student's schedule adjusted. However, it is possible for parents to adjust the schedule through the Parent application of Switched-On Schoolhouse. Directions can be found in the Academy's online SOS Reference Guide. When adjusting a student's calendar and lesson plan, parents need to remember that all courses must be completed within 12 months of a student's start date.

Q: What should I do when a project won't open?
A: Nearly all students can successfully open their Switched-On Schoolhouse projects by using WordPad® (a basic word processing program that is part of Microsoft Windows®).

Q: How do I contact my student's SOS Teacher?
A: SOS Teachers can be contacted only through the Switched-On Schoolhouse messaging system. If a student needs help that is more extensive than an SOS Teacher can provide in a typed message, the student may be instructed to call one of AOA's onsite teachers for assistance.

Q: My student is signed up for the online chemistry labs. How does my student complete those assignments?
A: Online labs through LateNiteLabs.com have proven to be a wonderful resource for Alpha Omega Academy's chemistry students, allowing them to complete complicated procedures in a safe environment. After students carry out the procedures and gather data through LateNiteLabs.com, they use that information to complete a lab report and submit it through Switched-On Schoolhouse. The student's grade for the experiment is based entirely on this lab report. Contact AOA's Science Department teachers if you have any questions about LateNiteLabs and chemistry projects.

FAQs for students using LIFEPAC

Q: Which projects are LIFEPAC students required to submit? How do they submit these projects?
A: Students enrolled in 9th-12th grade using LIFEPAC are required to turn in certain projects. Scores received on these projects make up 25% of a student's grade for each unit. You can see a list of required projects in the LIFEPAC Program Guide. Completed projects can be submitted through the Academy's LIFEPAC Online Test Center.

Q: Where can I find a copy of the Quarterly Report form? Where do I submit the form once I complete it?
A: Quarterly Reports are required for all students completing LIFEPAC courses as a way of verifying attendance, progress on daily work, etc. A copy of this form can be found in the Forms section of the Resource Center. Completed forms should be mailed to our mailing address listed below.

Q: My student takes his/her tests online, but I've noticed that some of the math tests are missing. Why is the test missing? What are we supposed to do about the test for that unit?
A: Certain math units focus heavily on paper based skills, such as graphing and constructions. Until adequate technology is available in every home, a better evaluation of these skills can be made using paper tests. Alpha Omega Academy teachers have selected a maximum of one test at each grade level that must be submitted in its paper form. When your student reaches a test that isn't available online, please use the test provided with the LIFEPAC booklet. If you have misplaced this test, contact your ASR for a replacement copy. Once your student has completed the test, please mail it to the Academy.
