Roger Bouwman — Bible Teacher

Roger BouwmanAs Bible teacher for grades 7-12 at Alpha Omega Academy, Roger Bouwman takes seriously the privilege and responsibility of instructing students in the Scriptures. Not only does he teach them foundational truths, he also shows AOA's distance learning students how to apply God's Word to their lives. Lovingly, but firmly, Roger guides his students through their biblical studies and requires their best effort when writing an essay or completing a project. His favorite part of teaching comes when he witnesses a change in a child's life as he responds to Bible truths.

Roger often tells his students: "Don't just know about Jesus; get to know Him as your friend. Take advantage of all of the Bible courses the Academy has to offer. While taking every Bible course may increase your course load during high school, each course provides much more depth and detail than you will receive in Sunday school or personal Bible reading. A strong grasp of God's Word is essential for every Christian."

Roger's personal training and education in the Scriptures began from the time he was a small boy. Raised in a Christian home, Roger benefited from his father's daily Bible readings, church attendance, and a godly mother who applied the Bible to daily living. As a young teen, Roger also saw a role model in his pastor who demonstrated joy and love in his Christian walk. Sensing God's call on his life, Roger made the decision to become a pastor and earned his master of divinity degree in 1984.

For the next several years, Roger ministered as a pastor in a congregational setting. He especially enjoyed the teaching aspect of his pastoral duties and taught Bible classes to men and women's groups, youth, new believers, and others. Like his favorite Bible character, the Apostle Paul, Roger's passion is to pass on a faith in Christ to the next generation. His personal goal then and now is "to make a Bible passage more understandable and relevant to people."

For fun and relaxation, Roger enjoys reading to his grandchildren, going on bike rides with his son, and fishing. He also loves spending time working around the house and yard with his wife. Roger's other favorite activities include worship and prayer times with fellow Christians.

Roger treasures the blessed assurance of Philippians 1:6 and prays that God will continue to perfect the good work He has begun in his life. As distance learning Bible teacher for Alpha Omega Academy, he hopes to plant the seed of God's Word in many more lives with love, kindness, and grace.
