Jonathan Gesink teaches middle school and high school math and science at Alpha Omega Academy. He learned about AOA’s distance learning program at Dordt College, where he earned his secondary education degree in May of 2013. Gesink said he enjoys working with students one-on-one to help them succeed at AOA.
Gesink was born in Nyack, New York, but spent most of his childhood growing up near Denver, Colorado. Raised in a strong Christian home, Gesink enjoys spending time in God’s creation. His hobbies include skiing in the mountains of Colorado, fly fishing, playing hockey, and mountain biking.
Some of Gesink’s favorite things include pizza, The Dark Knight, Duck Dynasty, and country music. He identifies his favorite musical artists as Dierks Bentley and For King and Country. His favorite Bible verse comes from Joshua 1:9, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
If Gesink could travel back in time, he would like to meet Jesus and the disciples. “I think it would be fascinating to be able to talk to them and watch them in the early days of furthering Jesus’ kingdom,” he said.
The three words Gesink uses to describe himself are focused, adventurous, and reserved. If he were to choose another career, Gesink would follow his adventurous side and become a smokejumper or fighter pilot. Someday, he would like to go heli-skiing in the mountains of Alaska.
