Kimberly Smith, an English and electives teacher at Alpha Omega Academy, is an energetic and fun-loving faculty member. Her teaching role is a varied one, as Smith teaches middle school and high school English courses, as well as 7th grade science, Career Explorations I, II, and III, and various state history courses. Born in Florida and now living in Texas, Smith is no stranger to being busy and adapting to change. Having lived in 10 states and overseas, she has a fond love of travel and family togetherness.
With a master’s degree in education and a bachelor’s degree in journalism, Smith has nearly 20 years of teaching experience. She also has a background in marketing and journalism, which is why Smith was excited to help AOA students start an online magazine in 2015. She came to AOA to experience an online teaching environment and work with middle and high school students. Her favorite part of working at AOA is communicating with students and parents, and she especially loves working one on one with students as they grow as writers and learners.
Smith has three grown children who are all married. When not at work, Smith can be found teaching English in her church’s adult ESL ministry. Additionally, she is involved in ministry with her husband in his position as a denominational missionary in the many churches in their county. When visiting these churches, Smith looks for stories about what God is doing, so she can share them in a column she writes for the association. Her interests include reading, studying history, swimming, sailing, and spending time with her pet dogs. In fact, one of her favorite quotes is “Outside of a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside of a dog, it’s just too dark to read!”
Smith’s most treasured possession is her relationship with her Savior and her family. Her favorite book of the Bible is Ruth, and her favorite verses are Jeremiah 29:11-13, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.'” One of her goals in life is to be an international missionary with her husband.
