Enthusiastic and fun loving, Marcia Klimes is an experienced French and music teacher, having taught both at the college level and in her local school district. Teaching Digital Arts makes use of her photography and computer skills. With a bachelor of arts degree in French and a minor in vocal music, Klimes also has completed her masters in school counseling, which she took online. Klimes is excited to teach at AOA and communicate one-on-one with students to key in on specific individual needs.
Born and raised in northwest Iowa, Klimes was an active student in music, drama, and speech, along with 4-H growing up. She also participated in choirs, piano and organ playing, and service projects for local churches in her youth. These days, her schedule is rounded out to include playing a 3-manual pipe organ for two worship services each Sunday in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. While there, Klimes sings in and accompanies choirs, and occasionally plays in bell choir. When not teaching, she enjoys golfing, gardening, canning and freezing produce, cooking and baking, playing competitive bridge, traveling, taking photos, and doing Bible studies. Klimes also treasures spending time with her grandchildren, saying it’s similar to a favorite sport since it definitely builds muscle tone and requires teamwork!
Klimes loves to interact with students and finds fulfillment when speaking to students (even in French!) She also likes interacting with her colleagues and strives to be a positive influence in the lives of her students and fellow teachers. Her motto is “Strive for excellence in everything and do everything to the glory of God”. Her favorite Bible verses are Philippians 4:4-8. She also loves many music pieces including Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, Bach’s “Toccata and Fugue in D Minor,” Widor’s “Toccata,” and music from West Side Story.
Klimes says if she could pursue a different career, it would be a travel agent or tour guide. Her most significant role model is her parents who taught her integrity, generosity, and genuine concern for others. If she were to meet anyone, it would be Warren Buffet because he has great ideas for how to make and use money wisely. Klimes would like to travel to Hawaii or take a Caribbean cruise someday and would like to learn to dance. An avid chocolatier, Klimes also likes homemade pizza, homemade bread, and home-canned sauces. Her most treasured possession is her family photos. She wants to be remembered as someone who lived her faith intentionally and celebrated everything the Lord gives her and as someone who respected God’s creation. Klimes’ proudest accomplishment is being a wife and a mother of four children.
