As an education coordinator at Alpha Omega Academy, Sarah Mason is responsible for helping students select courses that will set them up for a successful future. She also works with families throughout the school year to ensure things are going smoothly.
“Probably the most fulfilled I’ve ever felt is when I had a student graduate and mom called me after he was completed and just cried because she thought she’d never see the day that her son would graduate… She truly felt we were a gift from God and that has to be the best feeling I’ve ever had,” Mason said. “We make a difference every day and that was awesome to be part of.”
Though she’s convinced people will never believe it, Mason was a bit of a tomboy growing up. Born an only child in Bismark, North Dakota, she enjoyed fishing, camping, and building forts with the neighbor boys.
Today Masonjokes that she holds degrees in psychology, criminal justice, management, and human resources because she truly doesn’t know what she wants to be when she grows up. Despite that, she said her education and previous work experience help her relate to high schoolers and open their eyes to what can happen after graduation.
In her free time, Mason enjoys playing piano and singing. If she could pursue any career in the world, she would choose to become a Broadway actress. In addition to music, Mason enjoys painting. She also volunteers and works for the Family Crisis Center as a domestic abuse counselor. Some of her favorite things include ice cream, the Red Sox, the Broncos, and her phone.
Faith is also an important part of Mason’s life. She fell away from the Catholic faith in which she was raised for several years before returning to Christianity in 2005.
“I now spread the world of the Lord every chance I get,” Mason said. “Working for AOA is great as I am free to be myself and pray with the families when they ask. It’s a great feeling to be able to keep God first at work as well as at home.”
