Dawn Anderson has been teaching science at Alpha Omega Academy for more than 10 years. She holds a bachelor of science degree in biology with a minor in chemistry, as well as a bachelor of education degree with an emphasis in secondary school science. Before having children and joining the staff at Alpha Omega Academy, Dawn taught biology and chemistry at a public school for a few years.
“I most enjoy talking to and helping my students when they are stuck on something,” Dawn said. “A couple of years ago, I worked with a student who hated science and was not sure he could even pass it. He took both ninth grade science and then biology with me, and he did pass it and was able to graduate. He even enjoyed some of it!”
Originally from Canada, Dawn married a pastor who works for Village Missions. The couple and their three children now live in a small town in mid-coast Maine where Dawn’s husband serves at a small, struggling church. Dawn enjoys helping out with children’s ministries and is in charge of AWANA and VBS at her church.
In her free time, Dawn enjoys reading, playing games on her phone, and traveling. Her favorite foods are pizza and chocolate, and her favorite sports are swimming, field hockey, softball, baseball, and soccer because those are the sports her kids play.
Dawn’s favorite Bible verse comes from Micah chapter 6:
“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8).
If she could choose to meet anyone in the world, Dawn would like to ask questions of several Bible characters, including the Apostle John, Mary, Martha, David, and others.
