Kevin Born is a math teacher at Alpha Omega Academy who grades daily work and student projects and helps students via help notes, phone calls, and emails.
“I love when I have my whiteboard session and I am able to help a few students,” Born said. “The time I felt the most fulfilled is when I took a student who did not pass the first semester of Algebra I to passing with a B. Not only did I feel I made her confident in math again, but also in life.”
Born grew up in a small town outside Kansas City and taught for eight years at a charter school prior to teaching at AOA.
“I feel like I can really connect with each student on how to understand a concept and not just a skill in which the lesson is asking for,” he said.
Self-described as energetic, and encouraging, Born enjoys playing basketball, watching The Office, hiking, and spending time with family and friends. He is also grateful for a man by the name of Charlie Brown who brought him to Christ in junior high.
“I was taught to be the best person I can be while treating others the way I would want to be treated and there is no way God could deny me access to heaven, but Charlie gave me Isaiah 64:6 about how our righteous acts are like filthy rags,” he said. “Then he told me about the need for a Savior and that is when I knew I needed Christ. I love gathering people together to allow Jesus to work within us.”
