The March 2019 student of the month is Claire Berry, a 5th grade student at Alpha Omega Academy who lives in the heart of the Blackland Prairies of northeastern Texas. An early morning riser, Claire has made an immediate, positive impression on her teachers in her first year at AOA.

“She works really hard to understand concepts, and not just get the right answers. She is not afraid of asking for help when she needs it,” wrote Mrs. Natasha Brady, who nominated Claire to receive this month’s student of the month honor at AOA. “She loves to send me funny jokes and is an encouragement to me. The Spring Semester has begun here at AOA, and that means it’s time for our annual achievement testing!

AOA uses the Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) test through the Northwest Evaluation Association for our achievement testing. The MAP test is unique in that it is taken online and the test is adaptive to the student’s ability. When students begin the test, the first question is at their grade level. If the question is answered correctly, the next question is slightly more difficult. From there, the test gets progressively more difficult with each correct answer and slightly easier with each incorrect answer. Thus, the MAP test is successful in identifying the actual academic level of students as it adapts back and forth to find the level of academic comprehension, knowledge, and skills. The MAP test is comprised of three sections: language arts, reading, and math.

Giving your child the gift of a Christian education is an immeasurable treasure; however, we know that for some families, especially for the spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled military service-members, the burden of tuition can seem impossible. The February 2019 student of the month is Zoe Guerin, a senior at Alpha Omega Academy who calls Louisiana home, but also travels around the world spreading the good news of the Bible and sharing the love of Christ.

The January 2019 student of the month is Noah Payne, an inspiring senior from Yellowstone Country in Montana, who is overcoming kidney issues while embracing online learning and excelling as an “A student” at Alpha Omega Academy.

“Noah is a true profile in courage,” wrote Mrs. Mary Ellen Quint, who nominated Noah to be the year’s first recipient of AOA’s student of the month honor. “Despite serious health issues, he never complains and remains conscientious about completing his work even when he’s not feeling up to it.” [Read more…]
