August 2009 Student of the Month
When asked about Brooke Paulson, one of Alpha Omega Academy's language arts teachers said, "Her messages are always full of sunshine."
This month, Brooke will start her freshman year at Alpha Omega Academy® (AOA). A resident of Cartwright, North Dakota, Brooke is involved in speech and drama at her local school, and she is a dedicated violinist. This past year, Brooke impressed her friends and family by qualifying for state with her oral interpretation piece in speech. She also tied for fifth place at the state spelling bee.

Pruning Pains
"Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit" (John 15:2).
As we walked through the garden one morning during the summer break from our distance learning school, my daughter watched, as I began to pinch off the tops of several tomato plants. With a shocked look on her face, she cried, "Mom, what are you doing? We've been trying to get these plants to grow for weeks, and now you're destroying them!"

Do Parents or Teachers Influence Your Child More?
Many people would agree that parents often have the most powerful influence on a child's life, and it may have been true during your childhood as well. In my own case, the most influential person was my father, a courageous Baptist pastor. Hopefully, someday your children will also say something like Abraham Lincoln: "All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother."

July Student of the Month
Rebecca Ann Phillips was welcomed into Alpha Omega Academy® in 2002, and she has been with us ever since! A member of the class of 2010, Rebecca has a love for music, especially the violin. Each week, she takes violin, ballet, and tap dance classes at Colorado State University-Pueblo and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
