The June 2019 student of the month is Abbie McKenzie, who recently completed her fourth grade year at Alpha Omega Academy. A musically gifted student from the Pittsburgh metropolitan area, Abbie had her teachers singing her praises following her first year at AOA.
“Abbie is a hard-working student who always seems to keep herself ahead of pace instead of behind,” wrote Mrs. Pamela Holland, who nominated Abbie for this month’s honor. “She does great work, asks questions, and is always respectful of the teachers and staff when she calls in. Abbie also brought up the idea of the elementary music showcase that we put into action at the end of April. This was a great event that was held for our AOA elementary students to share some of their musical talents with the other students and teachers of AOA. Abbie was looking through our clubs and classes and just reached out to the teachers suggesting that we hold something music related, as she felt that was missing from AOA. Abbie is just finishing up her school year, and I want to recognize her for her awesome effort and for making AOA an even better school!
My AOA Story
This is my first year at AOA. My mom and I were on the Internet looking for an online Christian school, and we found what we were looking for with AOA.
Why I Love AOA
I love how kind and helpful the teachers are, and I like that you can meet different people at the clubs and connect. I made a club back in April. It’s called Musically Awesome. It’s all about acting, voice, instruments, art, and most importantly, friends.
My Favorite Subject
My favorite subject is History and Geography. I like it because I like to look at what happened a long time ago.
I have 2 younger siblings. I have a sister and a brother. We like to sing together, play, talk, create, and laugh.
I am a part of the Pittsburgh Youth Chorus, and I play 4 instruments: ukulele, guitar, piano, and recorder.
Someday, I hope to take classes to become a music teacher at a private school. I love music, and I love to teach. I also love meeting new people. I think that there is so much more to teach kids (like myself) about music.
My Words of Wisdom
Work hard, do your very best, don’t rush, enjoy learning, and see what a big difference it is to have an education.
