The April 2018 student of the month is Brittany Block, a sophomore at Alpha Omega Academy who stood out to AOA teacher Casey Born for her perseverance and motivation to constantly improve.
“Brittany has been adamant about asking questions and pushing through her grammar unit (a very difficult unit),” said Born who nominated Brittany for this month’s honor. “She went from failing lessons, to taking coaching, to getting one hundred percent on her test. Brittany is gritty and keeps viewing failure as an opportunity to do it again and learn. I’m not sure what her grades across the board are, but frankly, the grades are second to me when I see such a learner’s spirit.”
My AOA Story
I have been enrolled in AOA for 8 months. I learned about AOA through my teachers at Highlands Academy. I enrolled because AOA had great reviews, and I was anxious to learn from a Christian perspective.
Why I Love AOA
I love how I can do school whenever it is convenient for me, and the teachers are always there for help. The teachers’ desire to get to know the students has surprised me the most while being in AOA.
My Favorite Subject
My favorite subject is English. I love to write and enjoy learning how to make my writing better.
I have one older brother, and we enjoy playing football and basketball together.
I love to play volleyball, ski, and go to the beach with my friends. I believe others would be surprised to know that I am quite adventurous, even though I do not like to take many risks normally and I am quite reserved.
My Life Plans
I am very proud to graduate from Highlands Academy in June. I plan to travel the world with no particular destination in mind with my friends. One of my goals is to attend Oklahoma State University.
My Dream Job
I would be a forensic pathologist due to my fascination for the forensic field. I believe helping find the cause of someone’s death and bringing the criminal to justice is a great way to give back to the community.
My Words of Wisdom
Never give up when life gets hard. We all have a future and a purpose, even if yours might seem unclear at the moment.
