The November 2018 student of the month is Hannah Caldwell, a sophomore enrolled in the Alpha Omega Academy Alliance Program through Gilead Christian School in Ohio. Through AOA Alliance, Caldwell can be enrolled at her own school, while also taking courses through AOA, including English II, where she has impressed Mrs. Linda Kraft.
“Hannah is in my English II class and is doing well academically,” Kraft said. “She is a very conscientious student who asks for clarification before assignments, as well as asks for explanations if something is missed. She is very courteous and pleasant in her messages to me.”
My AOA Story
This is my first year at AOA. The school I attend, Gilead Christian, transitioned to a blended learning environment, and Alpha Omega Academy is what is used as the online coursework platform. I take English II, U.S. History, and Spanish I through AOA in the learning lab at Gilead Christian. My Biology, Bible, and Geometry courses are taught by teachers at Gilead Christian School (GCS). Most of my classes are alternated between the classes through Alpha Omega Academy and the ones at GCS.
Why I Love AOA
My favorite part of online learning is the ability to work on the classes at any time. I like how I can take extra time to study for tests if I need it and take my time on projects. I also like how I can message my teachers at any time and ask them any questions, and they always respond quickly, which helps me a lot! I was surprised at how open and available the teachers were. They make the lessons much easier and simpler than just doing it through your own homeschool program.
My Favorite Subject
My favorite subject would probably be history, especially world history. I love learning about the different political parts of all the different countries and how they all affect one another in world politics. It also really interests me to learn about all the different life stories of important people through history, like all their struggles and what they have been through.
I have four siblings, two older and two younger. My older sister is in college, so we don’t get to do much together anymore unless she is home on break or I spend the weekend at her dorm. My older brother and younger sisters and I all like to play with our dog, watch movies, play board games together, or just goof off together.
I love playing pretty much any sport, and I don’t like to lose! I play soccer and basketball, and swim in the summer. I love doing anything on the water, whether it’s swimming, tubing, fishing, or boating. I also love watching old movies and TV shows, especially I Love Lucy, and just hanging out with my friends and family.
My Love for Soccer
I have played soccer since kindergarten, and even though sometimes I have really, really wanted to quit, I have kept going, and that’s because I love the sport. There is no greater feeling than scoring a goal, stopping someone’s pass, or even just “megging” someone and winning the ball, and that is the reason I still play.
I would possibly like to go to Cedarville University, which is where my sister goes. I would also like to be a ROTC for the Air Force or Navy through whatever college I end up attending and even continue to play soccer. I absolutely love working with special needs kids, so I think whatever job I end up choosing will probably be related to that. Whether that be as a missionary, a teacher, nurse, or even something else, I think I would really enjoy it. I think whatever God calls me to be will fun, and I can’t wait to find out what he has in store for me!
My Words of Wisdom
The harder you work for something, the more worthwhile it is. While it may hurt in the moment, in the end, the good things in life are worth working for. So, I guess what I’m trying to say is that if you have something you want to achieve, whether it’s just a goal for a week or a month or your life dream, don’t give up when the going gets rough. God will give you the strength to complete it, and when you have completed it, you will be glad you did.
