“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come” (Proverbs 31:25).
Our August student of the month is Sammy Castrilon-Anzola, a bilingual sophomore from Bogotá, Colombia, who is in her first year at Alpha Omega Academy. According to Mrs. Linda Kraft, who nominated Sammy for this month’s award, “Sammy is great at seeking out help when something is unclear in a lesson or wanting further explanation on an answer she missed. Her questions and comments are respectful and relevant.”
My AOA Story
I have been homeschooled since I was in 7th grade in 2014. I spent three years studying with Monarch online curriculum from Alpha Omega Publications, but my parents and I wanted to have the opportunity to get my high school diploma and graduate from a school in the United States. We did some research, and God showed us that Alpha Omega Academy was the best option for us.
A Global Community
My favorite part of online learning is that I get to meet new people all over the world. My teachers are the kindest people ever, and they are always available for me. My first day of class in AOA, I attended Monday Prayer, and everybody was very welcoming. They made me feel like I was in the right place. Now I have some of the most amazing friends that I share with in different clases, such as Writer’s Block, Monday Prayer, French club, and much more.
Athens in the Andes
I live in Bogotá, the capital city of Colombia, and something that I can 100% assure you of is I love the food we have here. Everything is delicious, and you will not find this kind of food anywhere else on Earth.
I have two older sisters, and there are 11 years of difference between each of us. Lately we are not together all the time because we live in different countries, but whenever we are together, we are like best friends and enjoy going shopping, watching movies, and traveling together.
Love of Languages
My favorite subject at AOA is French. I already speak fluent Spanish and English, so I wanted to go on with a third language. In my first week in AOA, I checked the Online Classes and saw a French club that I was very excited to attend. That day, nobody else was present except for Mrs. Klimes and me, so we had a beautiful opportunity to get to know each other well. I fell in love with the French language immediately, and it is very funny for me when I find so many similarities between Spanish and French, which makes it even easier for me to learn. I have a very good teacher, who is interested in knowing that I understand everything. I want to continue learning new languages to share what God has given me with the whole world.
The Blue Umbrella
I randomly joined a Blue Umbrella staff meeting and had the amazing opportunity to write my first ever article. There, I discovered my talent of writing. When I began writing that article, it was like the words I needed simply fell into place, and I really enjoyed doing it. When it was published, I felt very blessed and proud of myself.
Full of Dreams
I consider myself a very creative and artistic person. My biggest passion is to dance, any kind of dance, and I like to learn new choreographies watching videos. The year I started homeschooling, I created an Instagram art account, and since then I have seen a lot of progress in my drawings. I also like photography and love music. I play the drums, and I want to learn piano and guitar.
My mind is full of ideas all the time: book ideas, movie ideas, and whenever I hear a song, I already am creating a choreography to it in my head. I am full of dreams that I really want to work on, and one day I want to be able to share all the talents that God has given me.
After I graduate, I want to make dance the number one thing on my list, but I also want to make art, design, and get a good job in which I can develop all my skills. Since I was a little girl, I wanted to be a teacher. I am good with people, and I have the ability to explain things in a practical way, either with words or activities. I would probably teach dance, art, or languages. As long as I count on God, everything is going to be fine. I feel like there are a million possibilities for me and anything I choose, if I give all I can and work hard, I will be successful at it.
Words of Wisdom
Place all your trust in God and give Him the honor that He deserves. Never stop dreaming. Discover and use all the talents that God has given you. Enjoy every moment and learn from every situation you go through. Nothing happens without a reason or a purpose. You are important and a beautiful creation in which God spent His time. He made us all different, so respect others and yourself.
