Q: Please describe yourself as a person.
A: I am a very happy and jovial person — calm and serene most of the time. I'm too lazy to hold a grudge. My ability to forgive and be concerned with other people's problems I attribute to the work of God in me.
Q: What courses are you taking, and do you have a particular reason for selecting these courses?
A: I am currently enrolled in 11th grade and am taking Algebra II, English III, Vietnam era, music theory, and college planner. I am a history geek and am immersed in the world of music. Recently, I took an AP course on government and politics at a local college. After I finish my junior year in January, I will attend a Christian boot camp called Alert Academy for three months.
Q: How long have you been enrolled at AOA? What circumstances led you to enroll with the academy?
A: I've been homeschooled since birth! I have been learning with the SOS curriculum since the 3rd grade. I enrolled with AOA in 7th grade because my mom thought that it was best if someone else could grade my English assignments and help us with algebra. I am very happy with the education I am receiving.
Q: What aspect of AOA do you enjoy the most?
A: I enjoy the ability to work at my own pace, whether fast or slow. The other enjoyable factor of AOA is the ability to talk to my teachers. It makes me feel that I am part of the school. I look forward to my graduation so I can meet them [the teachers] and thank them in person.
Q: Describe your hobbies and interests.
A: Music, hockey, cooking, history and politics, and of course my friends and video games. Music is my primary interest as it takes up much of my daily free time. Hockey is second, and cooking…well, the truth is I LOVE TO EAT! Cooking has become a side-passion of mine. History and politics are by no means my most enjoyable hobbies; however, they are so important to the proper function of our society that I have made it a goal of mine to stay on top of our government's past, present, and future.
Q: Describe your personal testimony.
A: My personal testimony is long, and I could not possibly put it in a small paragraph; however, the change from a life of selfishness, rebellion, deceit, and hopelessness is my tale — a tale that was changed to one of happiness, forgiveness, and an ever-constant goal of Christ-likeness. Jesus Christ is my best friend and my Savior who has been there through good and bad times, abuse, and betrayal — my ever constant friend.
Q: What are some of your favorites (food, movie, Bible stories, sports, music, etc.)?
A: I would have to say that European food is my favorite. My favorite movies are movies with great plot, comedy, action, and especially MUSIC! So my favorites would be The Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, Star Wars, Aladdin, Kung Fu Panda, and Master and Commander. My favorite sports include hockey, volleyball, and soccer. My favorite music is Christian contemporary and classical music. My favorite group is Casting Crowns, and my favorite classical composer is Vivaldi.
Q: Are you a member of any organizations or church groups? Do you volunteer at some place special?
A: I am a member and worship leader at Light of Life Free Will Baptist Church (LOL). This church is pastored by my father. I help with songs of worship during the chapel hour of a local Christian private school. I also help coach younger hockey players. I volunteer to work wherever I am needed, so long as it fits into my work schedule. Soon I will be crossing the border to help in the construction of a church in Mexico. The pastor from that church is a handyman. He knows the how-to of everything! He is also teaching me shop at home.
Q: What are your future plans or dreams for college and career?
A: Music will, God-willing, be my ever-constant dream and source of income — with cooking on the side. But I will not discard a career as a lawyer or a politician. (My mom says that I never lose an argument!) I've also thought about being a psychologist or Christian counselor. I am always helping other teens and their families to solve their conflicts. Honestly, I really do not know, but I hope my job will be one in which I will do what I love doing and get paid for doing it! And of course, I want one which will honor God.
Q: Who is the most significant role model in your life?
A: I can't decide between Ronald Reagan and my father because they are both very much alike. They were/are independent, brave, strong, morally principled, fun, and were/are both great leaders.
Q: After what motto do you model your life?
A: "I reject your reality and substitute it for my own." -Mythbuster Adam Savage
"We shall have fun at ANY cost" – Me
Now a serious one: "We shall never surrender" – Winston Churchill.
Q: What would others be surprised to learn about you?
A: I can sing like a chipmunk, speak in any imaginable accent on earth, and I enjoy puppets.
Q: Is there anything you've always wanted to do but haven't yet?
Q: Of what accomplishment in life are you most proud?
A: I am proud that we planted a church in Chapala, Mexico (where I lived for six years with my missionary parents). I'm also proud of a gourmet meal that I prepared for my parents' 19th wedding anniversary: linguini alfredo with lobster, shrimp, and scallops with a side of exotic vegetables.
